I know struggles, leaps of faith, and hard work. By the age of 25, I had three bakeries, a food truck, and 23 employees Baking cupcakes was my passion. I was good at it, and I was successful.
But… the business just wasn’t aligning with the dreams I kept saying I had. The money I was making wasn’t enough for all of the time and energy I was putting into maintaining success. I knew I was worth more and capable of more.
I had to make a decision:
Did I want to settle for ‘good enough’ and carry on doing just fine? Or did I want to go after my dreams and do something BIG, something GREAT?
The BIG won.
I made the bold transition from bakeries to co-founding a construction business with my husband, Charles. And the success didn’t come without an initiation that had me prove my willingness to go all in on myself! I applied the experience, expertise, grit, systems, and wisdom I’d gained from scaling my bakeries and we put our heads down, busted our asses, slept on floors, and persevered through tremendous heartaches to bring our vision into reality.
In that first 4 years, we scaled our team from just me and my husband to almost 100 employees. I leaped from making $30 per hour to making $1500 per hour. And our business experienced a 4,000% increase!
We took our business from practically nothing in the bank to nearly $20 million in sales per year, serving world-class clients including AECOM, Turner, Balfour Beatty, and we won a billion-dollar bid backed by Berkshire Hathaway.
People were no longer thinking I was crazy; they were asking for my advice.
Today, I wake up grateful every day to be doing what I love (with people I love) on a bigger scale than I ever thought possible, with the freedom, time, and energy to pursue the things that bring me joy in life.
And it’s all down to being willing to get honest and take a risk to go for GREATNESS.
